Through the Greenwood

There are places where the path disappears beneath the leaves and the forest seems to go on forever.

Through the Greenwood is a one-of-a-kind, approximately 27-inch necklace built entirely from individually hand-wrapped gemstone links. Jadeite, jade, nephrite, aventurine, peridot, and freshwater pearls travel around the strand in an intentionally varied procession of greens, from pale translucent celadon and tender spring green to deep forest tones.

Natural carved jadeite and carved white jade bring subtle variations of color and form, joined by faceted aventurine coin beads, Australian nephrite, and tiny micro-faceted peridot coins that catch pinpricks of light between the larger stones. Creamy round freshwater pearls soften the greens, while three large, luminous baroque pearls appear along the strand like clearings in the forest, each naturally irregular and entirely its own.

Rather than being traditionally strung, every gemstone and pearl is connected individually with hand-wrapped 14kt gold-filled wire. It is a painstaking method of construction, but one I love for pieces like this: each stone becomes its own small composition, and each connection is securely wrapped for strength and years of wear. Small 14kt gold-filled beads add warm points of light throughout the necklace.

At approximately 27 inches, Through the Greenwood is designed to slip easily over the head without a clasp. Its long silhouette allows the individual stones to fall naturally into place, giving the necklace the easy movement of something gathered gradually along a wandering path.

No two sections are quite alike. Follow it around the strand and there is always another stone, another texture, another shade of green waiting a little farther along.
