Nightfall Bracelet

Black stone is rarely simply black.

The Nightfall Bracelet brings together two volcanic materials with distinctly different surfaces: polished snowflake obsidian, scattered with pale mineral blooms, and porous black lava stone left richly textured from its formation.

The 10mm natural snowflake obsidian beads reveal shifting patterns of charcoal, silver-gray, and black. These distinctive markings form as obsidian slowly begins to crystallize, creating the pale, radiating structures that give snowflake obsidian its name. Against them, 8mm lava stone beads provide a striking change in texture, their dark, pitted surfaces retaining visible evidence of their volcanic origin.

Small 4mm sterling silver beads punctuate the composition with restrained flashes of light. Their polished surfaces provide a cool counterpoint to the matte lava stone and patterned obsidian, while allowing the natural character of both stones to remain the focus.

There is something almost lunar about the finished piece: dark volcanic terrain interrupted by pale formations and brief glints of reflected light. Nightfall is deliberately monochromatic, but far from uniform. Its interest lies in texture, geology, and the remarkable variety that can exist within a palette of black, gray, and silver.
