There is something especially beautiful about a botanical form that was not simply shaped to look alive, but forged into movement by hand.
Leaf in Motion centers on a solid sterling silver leaf created entirely by hand using the traditional fold-forming process. Beginning with flat sheet silver, the metal is repeatedly folded, hammered, annealed, opened, and worked again, with each sequence of carefully directed blows gradually stretching and shaping the silver into its final botanical form.
The process leaves its history written across the surface. Fine hammer marks radiate outward from the raised central fold, creating a texture reminiscent of natural veins while catching flashes of light across the polished silver. Rather than lying perfectly flat, the leaf retains the gentle dimensional curve created during forging, giving it a sense of movement even while still.
Because fold forming relies on the way an individual piece of metal responds beneath the hammer, the process cannot be reproduced with mechanical precision. Tiny differences in curvature, texture, proportion, and surface emerge naturally as the silver is worked, making each finished leaf its own expression of the technique.
At approximately 2.5 inches long, Leaf in Motion has enough scale to make the craftsmanship visible while remaining wonderfully wearable, a small piece of botanical sculpture shaped not by a mold, but by fire, hammer, and hand.
